2.05.06:  MICROGRAVITY WINS VISUAL EFFECTS AWARD, PLACES 3rd OVERALL in SCI FI FESTIVAL

"Microgravity," a David Ethan Sanders film, has received the Douglas Trumbull Award for Outstanding Visual Effects at the 2006 Science Fiction Short Film Festival (SFSFF) in Seattle, Washington.

Leslie Howle, SFSFF Director and Senior Manager, Science Fiction Museum and Hall of Fame, presented the previously-unannounced award to David Sanders in front of a crowd of about 600 people.  Ms. Howle introduced the award with the following words from Douglas Trumbull, who was unable to attend:

"I believe that everything in film is an illusion to some degree, and even though special visual effects is a specific category here, I laud the hard work and earnest effort which makes a film the magic that it is, and MICROGRAVITY impressed me not just with its effects, but with the overall magic of transporting me to another place and time so effectively. Great direction, terrific lighting, excellent production design, wonderful performances, excellent wardrobe... all part of the magic of the movies."

"Microgravity" also placed third overall in a highly competitive field of twenty short films.  First place was awarded to Stephen O'Regan's "They're Made out of Meat," a film noir interpretation of the classic Terry Bisson dialogue.  Second place was awarded to "Red Planet Blues" by David H. Brooks, a charming claymation tale about an optimistic Martian and its encounter with an obtuse NASA probe.
